The Gunsite Tactical Medicine Class provides extensive training on medical equipment selections. Students want to know what is the best small personal trauma kit to buy, and I usually tell them to buy well-made and trustworthy components and built their own. The overwhelming majority of premade kits for sale are filled with poorly made, unreliable foreign supplies, often counterfeiting brand name tourniquets and other components and are usually very expensive. 

Gunsite is now offering an Individual First Aid Kit for major trauma, that the Tactical Medicine instructors and Gunsite Pro Shop staff designed together. It is very well made and thought out, filled with only brand name quality components, and costs less than buying the individual pouch and supplies separately. 

The pouch comes in black or red, with a great medical cross with a raven insignia. The stitching is perfect, and it uses a coil zipper that is much more durable and quieter than a toothed zipper. It opens completely into two halves for access rather than forcing you to dig down to find loose items. Each item inside is well secured and will not fall out even though it can be found at a glance or by feel in the dark. It is not overstuffed, providing room for adding a few more items if the user is trained to a higher level. 

The most immediately needed items; a Combat Application Tourniquet, gloves, and trauma sheers are instantly available. Internal pouches hold my favorite high end compression dressing, the OLAES Modular Bandage that combines wound packing gauze with point compression. A Nasopharyngeal airway is visible on the opposite side. And in the second pouch behind is a pair of Hyfin Vent Chest seals, Quick Clot Hemostatic Gauze, and a flat roll of Duct Tape to secure the dressings. Everything you need to treat severely bleeding extremity wounds, seal gunshot wounds to the chest, and help keep an upper airway open. And the raven symbol is awesome!
